Digital or film?

I’ve often wondered why everyone who goes into photography as a hobby prefers overly expensive and the latest models of digital cameras and digital slrs. Personally, it’s the person’s ability that matters, no matter what kind of camera he uses.

Probably the biggest advantage of digital cameras against film cameras is the instant display of the image in an LCD screen. This way the photographer can easily check what he did right or wrong based on the picture. This image is, in turn, processed in the computer. But while this is an advantage, I believe that a photographer should stay longer behind a camera than in front of a pc.

Some people may already be frowning at me at what I’m saying. I know that the debate on the use of digital or film cameras will always be a great issue of photographers, and there will always be pros and cons for both types of cameras. But the most important thing we should always remember is that whether we use the traditional film camera or the more advanced digital cameras, we should not forget the values in photography that are essential in making us better and more effective in our chosen hobby or profession.
