The Best Way to Cope with Stress

Stress is something that a teenager is very much aware of. From the pressure at home, school, and from friends, it’s very difficult to sit back, relax, and just not think of anything. Some people may think that the stress the teens undergo may seem trivial compared to the kind of stress adults have, but it’s not true. Teenagers really have a lot on their hands. Trust me, I know.

But a recent study showed an effective way to manage stress. In one school where a survey has been conducted, it showed that more than 50% of the students who have undergone a lot of stress have tried to hurt themselves at least once. Now, I don’t know about you, but that definitely isn’t a good sign to me. Because of the overwhelming number, another study has been conducted, which showed that physical activity can actually lessen the impact of stress to teens.

I’ve been playing volleyball since I was in freshman year, and come to think of it, hitting that ball was a way for me to release some of my steam. The study showed that teens who engage in any physical activity (exercise, or play any kind of sport) are usually in a better mood than those teens who don’t do much exercise or sports.

Having said this, it think engaging in sports is the best way to combat stress. Not only do you get to spend more time with the people you love, doing something you love, but you’re also giving yourself a break from all the pressure. Stress shouldn’t be a reason or excuse for us to stop achieving and stop living. Instead, it should be a motivation for us to further do more.
